Poetry Lesson
Here are a few minutes of my poetry lesson, where I explained the usage of a volta or turn. This lesson aimed to prepare Grade 12 students for the Advanced Placement Literature and Composition Exam.
Poetry Jeopardy!
I designed a game-show-style challenge to test the students’ learning of poetic devices. Students were divided into teams and competed to see which team could answer the most questions correctly. The more difficult questions called upon students to identify as many literary devices as possible in a passage of verse.
Poetry never dies
The game featured poetry from canonical poets like William Shakespeare, John Milton, and John Donne and lyrics from Lin-Manuel Miranda's musical Hamilton.
Hamilton’s rap lyrics are full of clever rhymes and sound devices. Poetry lives on in contemporary music and media.
